Education is the heart and soul of Amanda Black Fitness (Team ABF) – we do not believe there is just one way to be successful on your body transformation journey. That is why we work together to figure out YOUR WAY to find success for the rest of your LIFE (yes, totally serious), – so if you are serious about not just meeting your goals but learning to surpass them FOR LIFE, girl you are in the right place. WELCOME!
Amanda Black
Owner / CEO
Amanda Black is Ohio born and raised, where she still lives with her (handsome) hubby and two rescue dogs (okay to be real, they are her children). She holds a B.S. in Social Work and Psychology from Capital University, is a Certified personal Trainer, Certified Nutrition coach, and a 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher. Her health journey started in college after leaving the life of organized sports and gaining the dreaded "freshman 15", which left her feeling like a stranger in her own body. Her life took a turn for the worse when diet culture started to creep into her life to lose the weight she gained in college. During her junior year, she developed an eating disorder paired with extreme body dysmorphia - which is the catalyst that drove her to creating Amanda Black Fitness. She spent a lot trying to change her body the WRONG WAY and has done just about every fad diet in the book (literally all of them LOL). She has been through more challenges to change her body than she can count, and she is now determined to help teach other women how to ESCAPE that cycle. Today, Amanda strives to help women find a beautiful balance between both living their lives, eating/drinking amazing things while still achieving their dream body no matter what life throws their way. In her (not so abundant) free-time, she enjoys spoiling her dogs on long walks, re-watching the same Netflix shows 8x, and lifting heavy stuff on the daily. O and dinosaurs... she really LOVES dino's.
Drew Black
Owner / CFO
Drew grew up in Columbus, Ohio, where he currently lives with his wife Amanda and their two dogs. He holds a B.S in Economics with minors in Finance and Management. Prior to joining his wife at Team ABF, he managed a large construction company in Columbus. He grew up playing sports year round and still has an affinity for anything sports or competition related. One of his true passions in life is helping develop motivated people to become their best selves. In his free time he enjoys golfing, playing hockey (and pretty much any sport), watching movies, and home improvement projects.
Samantha Burr
Coach
Samantha grew up in New Jersey, but currently lives in the State of Florida with her husband and their rescue boxer, Mabel. Samantha holds a bachelor’s degree in K-12 Health and Physical Education from Rowan University. She is also Level 1 Certified from the Nutrition Coaching Institute, Neurotype Certified, Certified Nutrition Expert Program, as well as DLD Nations Online Fitness and Nutrition Program. Samantha grew up heavily involved in sports, specifically field hockey and softball, which she earned a scholarship for. Samantha found herself in this strange gray area with health and fitness. She was an athlete but also struggled with her weight most of her life. She tried an array of fad diets and was spinning her wheels getting nowhere. It was when she saw a photo of herself and had a “rock bottom” moment which was the catalyst to start her journey. She went on to lose close to 90lbs but picked up some rather disordered behaviors along the way. Sure, she had lost weight, but she hit rock bottom again, finding herself obsessing over the scale, “points”, her body, and developed an even worse relationship with food. She found herself in a binge restricted cycle. She felt broken. She knew there had to be a better way. This is when Samantha decided to hire a coach to help her achieve her goals. Samantha was blown away by the transformation she was able to make with her coach. Yes, physical transformation happened but the mental changes that came from working with a coach were life-changing. She was eating to fuel her body and no longer binge eating! She ditched the endless amounts of cardio and fell in love with strength training and watching her body get stronger. She healed her relationship with the scale and no longer saw foods as “good" or "bad”. The whole experience was so impactful that she decided that she wanted to be a coach and help other women find the freedom that she so desperately needed. Today, Samantha works to help women ditch the fad diets, fall in love with themselves, and find freedom and peace in their health and fitness journey. In her free time, she loves to lift weights, stand-up paddle board, spend time with family and friends, listen to podcasts, and she loves all things mermaids and Philly Sports!
Carol Wentzel
Coach
Carol grew up in Columbus, Ohio but she currently lives at Buckeye Lake, Ohio with her husband of 30 years and their boxer, Maizy. She is also a Mom to two adult children, Seth and Kasey. Carol has been in public service her whole life. In July of 2022, she retired from the Ohio Department of Taxation with over 32 years of service. Carol is 51 years old and living proof that anything is possible at any age. After struggling for most of her life with her weight and feeling desperate to feel strong and confident in her body she fell prey to many unhealthy and unsustainable fad diets. And finally, after years and years of yo-yo-ing and feeling sick and tired and uncomfortable in her body all the time, she hired Amanda Black Fitness as her coach and hasn’t looked back! She immediately fell in love with the lifestyle coaching and knew this time was different! She was so inspired by Amanda’s coaching, she decided to make a career of it! She is a certified Personal Trainer through ISSA, Certified Trauma Informed Fitness Coach and Personal Trainer, Certified Group Fitness Instructor and Level 1 Certified Nutrition Coach. Carol loves working with clients to find the best fitness and health options for their unique lives, goals and needs! She has a passion for helping midlife women attain their fitness goals and especially empowering them in the gym! She knows the confidence gained in the gym will carry over to other aspects of their lives and they will begin to feel more comfortable in their bodies than they ever have before!
Brittany Brown
Coach
Brittany grew up in Bluffton, OH but currently lives in Columbus, OH. Brittany has been in the fitness industry for 5 years and is an ACSM Certified Personal Trainer, PN Level 1 Coach, and Cyclebar instructor. She is a mom to a 9-year-old daughter, Erika. After Brittany had Erika, she quickly found herself overwhelmed at the amount of information online about how to lose weight. This led to years of yo-yo dieting, binge-restricted cycles, and ultimately - no lasting results. She decided that she wanted to set a better example for Erika and truly build a healthy lifestyle. This pushed her to focus her education on health & wellness, where she fell in love with weight training and nutrition. Fast forward to now, Brittany thrives on educating women & moms about how to find freedom in food, build a healthy lifestyle, and feel comfortable in their skin again. Outside of training, you can find Brittany volunteering at Columbus Humane Society, reading, exploring Metro Parks, or at Target or Trader Joe’s!
Cassie Sims
Coach
Cassie lives in Benton, Arkansas with her husband, Wilson, and two chihuahuas, Bobo & Carlos. Cassie is a NASM Certified Personal Trainer, holds the DLD Nation - Online Fitness and Nutrition Certification, and your personal hype girl! After graduating college, she continued to eat and drink with no thought to food quality just to find herself feeling sick, uncomfortable, and sluggish 24/7 by the age of 25. She woke up one day and said enough is enough. So she started her health and fitness journey. Starting with group fitness classes, she improved her movement and started to lose weight, but she continued to struggle with the nutrition aspect. She had a toxic relationship with food. From eating too little to binge eating, she just couldn’t break the cycle. One night she sat down to eat a salad for dinner and quite literally started crying because all she wanted was Mac and cheese. Again it hit her “this is not normal! No one should be crying over mac and cheese!” So she hired a coach. Finally learning the truth about nutrition and nonrestrictive diets, her physical and mental health began to thrive. She fell in love with this new mindset and decided she wanted to help other women break up with this toxic relationship regarding food. When she is not busy hyping women up and teaching them to believe in themselves, you can find her reading a good book, listening to vinyl, or cuddled up with her pups on the couch.
